Open Working Lineup (OWL)

In order to reduce unnecessary duplication, avoid wasted effort and contribute towards collective impact it is critical that the Catalyst network documents and makes open blueprints for the services that charities deliver. This will help reuse across the Catalyst network and civil society.

One of the main roles for Catalyst is to enable the effective coordination of a network of collaborators in supporting civil society organisations to effectively use design, technology and data to improve their individual and collective impact.

To support this coordination we need to identify where there are common or shared services from across a diverse range of projects and collaborators, so that collaborators and civil society organisations can learn from each other and make collective progress towards common goals.

 

To ensure that we are building services which can be reused at the point of creation or delivery, we will embed the pattern definition and recipe generation into the development process. 

As a product owner within a civic society organisation, I need to understand what has been done before by other organisations so that I can reuse them.

As a funder, I need to understand what has been done before, so I can focus my funding on novel services and on continued funding for widely used reusable applications.

As a civic society organisation, I need to publish the recipes for my service so that I can help other organisations and learn from how they build similar services to mine.
